BIMI is an authentication method used in e-mail communication. It is an identifier placed next to the sender’s name, which lets the recipients know that the message is from a certified company. It works hand-in-hand with DMARC, a security setting that companies use to prevent their email addresses from being spoofed.
What is BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification)?
Who founded BIMI? It’s fair to say that the take email marketing service idea of additional authentication started with X (when it was called twitter ) in June 2009. That’s when the token authentication authority was introduced.
Flash forward to 2021, the AuthIndicators team (including Google and Mailchimp) and email marketers got together to somehow bring this idea to email inboxes – and created BIMI.
Their mission? Simple – eliminate annoying fake emails and make recipient inboxes safer with better security protocols.

How does BIMI record work with brand logos?
BIMI works quite logically.
The domain owner sets a special BIMI DNS TXT record (information about the domain, such as its IP address, etc.).
When recipients receive e-mail messages, mailbox service providers verify that they are from the company they claim to be. This is the authentication how to identify potential partners part that works with all email standards.
If the email is genuine, it will automatically retrieve that specific DNS record.
If a BIMI DNS record exists for that email, mailbox service providers will support that company’s BIMI branding.
Result? When the email message ends up in the recipient’s inbox, it contains the logos controlled by the brand, with the certificates of the verified brand next to them.
Uploading the BIMI file to the settings of the email marketing tool is enough. This can be an SVG file or any other file format that works with email Canada Email Lead servers.
